The Nautor Swan 43 1987

Hi
I am looking to buy a new bigger boat and has set my eyes on a swan 43 from 1987. Do you guys and girls in here know af any inherent problems with this vessel? Any help will be greatly appreciated

Thanks
Esben

They are really well built, but anyway treat him with the surveyor like any other mass production boat, I would emphasize in the rod rigging , a previous rigging record or recent overhauls can save you a headache....

Re: The Nautor Swan 43 1987

I think we looked at one of these when we were boat shopping. It is a Ron Holland design I think. The one we looked at had had $24k spent on rebuilding the chain plate structure of the hull. Also the mid-line queen did not work well. It was wider aft and I assume you were to have your heads there, but there was not enough headroom - if you sat up quickly, which happens on a boat, you would hit your head. If you slept with head forward the berth was pretty narrow.

We met a couple in Indonesia with an early Discovery 55 (also Holland design) that had had the same kind of chainplate repair as the Swan. When you are spending Swan/Discovery money you take strength of a key system as a given. My sense is that the early S&S Swans are great as are the later Frers designs. The in-between Hollands perhaps not as good.
