Pypilot was made specifically to work w/OCPN & OPlotter.

That isn't true at all. Our boat has a wheel and is 100% hydraulic steering and we have been using it for a while. Here is a link to our set up

Another example is a steel hull w/wiper motor belt driven off the wheel.
