Re: transducer forward of keel will it get trashed?

Very happy we have a Simrad/B+G forward looking sonar.
Use it every time going into anchorages and it works well at less than 4kts when looking for the correct depth to drop the hook. Invaluable when creeping up a sandy bottom to a reef to anchor and swim. We use it on a soft bottom as well - you never know if there is a random wreck!
I like the alarm which is audible. Also has an orange pre-alarm then turns the screen red.
Going astern or dropping the hook affects the reading - as you would expect.
Our charts are not accurate in small bays so we run the sonar all the time till we are in deep water. Have no problem seeing actual depth and it matches very well with the regular depth reading so it's a good back-up.
It's affected badly by pitch but if we pitch so much the reading is bad then we're not likely to anchor there anyway.
It's position is not a problem for lifting out but it's removable anyway so could fit a blank.
Setting it up correctly is an issue. It takes time - but is well worth it.
It was a good decision to fit.
