Re: Twist anchor swivelling connector

This is the non-swivel version, the brain child of Neeves.

https://www.anchorright.com.au/news/...ive-flip-link/

I've tested it. It works. As shown, it needs to be some distance from the anchor, to turn the anchor before it reaches the roller.

That said, I solved my problem even more simply:
  • As others have said, if the chain is on the gypsy correctly, the anchor comes up aligned.
  • Do NOT motor forward with the anchor still in the water. Stop or drift back. Modern anchors line up with the flow of the water, so if you are motoring forward YOU are the cause of the anchor coming up backwards. Drift back instead. Easy, right way every time.

Re: Twist anchor swivelling connector

I have never used a anchor swivel and removed the one that came with my new boat . Always have considered them the weakest link . I sleep better without one.
Though I raise the anchor from the bow and just reposition, turn as it comes through the chocks.

Re: Twist anchor swivelling connector

We use the Mantus swivel and I bring up the last 3 feet of chain and anchor slowly.

Why not just contact Mantus? They are a very reputable company. I old be surprised if they can’t help you solve the issue. Since I don’t know how old the unit is it may be it may be something as simple as taking it apart and cleaning it. They will know.

Re: Twist anchor swivelling connector

I have a Mantus Swivel attached to a Sarca Excel.
Occasionally I have similar reversals.
Firstly the swivel has an oval pin which has a higher load capacity to my G4 chain, so it won’t be the weakest link. It’s compact so I can’t see it would reduce the anchors workings.
Also after splitting the clamshell and cleaning/ regreasing the swivel this year, it has helped lessen the reversals. I think over time sand & mud work into the inner workings.making it less effective.

I couldn't agree more. Make sure there is no twist in the chain between your anchor and the gypsy before trying anything else. If the chain is straight and you pause briefly as the anchor shaft enters the bow roller and the anchor is sitting at an angle it will most likely right itself.

Re: Twist anchor swivelling connector

Had never had a problem until installing a new Mantus anchor. Came up backward every time. I called Mantus. They suggested adding a second shackle. I did. Problem solved.
