Union Polaris Opinions Please

Hello I am looking at a Union Polaris for really cheap that has been demasted.

What are the pros and cons of this boat besides the access for tankage and too much bright work?

Start over with the wiring.

Are these notorious for bad wiring?

I've only seen the insides of one or two, but they both had zip cord for the navigation lighting.
Tank access was pitiful.
OTOH at the time, we had a Lord Nelson 35.
They look similar, but that's where the similarity ends.
There are HUGE differences in design and construction.
Compare if you can.
Buyer's market.

Re: Union Polaris Opinions please

dofthesea,

There would be lots to consider. Perhaps the first item of concern might be the cause of the mast separation. Chain plates, poor standing rigging or perhaps wood rot or metal fatigue. At any rate all would be suspect. If the current owner had put lots of work into the interior and cabin top and the price is acceptable to you, she could once again be a fine boat.

Yes there is a lot of maintenance on a Union Polaris with it's bright work but things of quality are worth the effort. When you pull into an anchorage with your bright work all shiny your pride of ownership will be admired and you will know your rewards.

Best of Luck

Captain Dan
