Universal M-30 heat exchanger

Looking for advice about changing out the 2" heat exchanger that was originally fitted to the engine with a 3" replacement. A Service Bulletin from Universal suggested this would help with high operating temps. which we seem to have on our new to us 1986 Bristol 35.5. Has anyone had experience with this? was it successful in bringing down engine temps we can push up near 200 although it could also be attributed to instrumentation.

Re: Universal M-30 heat exchanger

My Universal M40 came with two inline 2" heat exchangers. That was the result of a previous owner getting a used one from someone else who had increased the size of theirs. Doubling the heat exchangers was a direct response to generally running hot on the single unit.

I just replaced the pair with a 3" unit from Mr. Cool. Very happy with the simplification in plumbing. I'll be honest that I cannot verify the heat handling results until next season.
