US Boat Purchase

I'm pretty sure this thread has been discussed several times but here we go again! I'm in southwestern Ontario and looking for a boat. More than likely a early-mid 80's Catilana C-36 for around the $35-40K mark. There are very few options in Ontario but quite a few in Michigan. My questions are: Do I pay only the HST to bring it to Canada or is there also duty and other fees involved. Do I only deal with the American broker or do I need a Canadian one as well? I would think that a good survey knows no borders also. Just trying to get a handle on purchasing a US boat and importing it to Canada. And it would be delivered over water as opposed to trailering it. Thanks!!

On a US built boat HST only. A good broker helps but the paperwork is not too difficult. No problem with sailing it back.

What about a Canadian made boat such as a CS or a C&C? HST only as well?

Yes, any boat built in a NAFTA country is HST only.
