Valiant 32 "Amazing Grace"

Wow, everything really happens for a reason. I was on the way to put an offer on a steel sloop which I thought had good promise for a blue water cruiser.

Headed to marina, and got an email from broker saying that someone had come in and bought it...grrrrrr

So, my second choice - really my first choice - only second choice because I didn't think I would be able to afford it. Valiant 32 - completely fitted out for blue water cruising. All I would have to do is just maintain as normal, and update gear when needed.

So I put a low ball offer in, and can not beleive my luck - seller accepted. So I am now the proud owner of "Amazing Grace" see attached. I am over the moon....mmmmm.....now to learn how to sail a cutter....hahaha

Valiant 32

For those that don't know about the Valiant 32.

The Valiant 32 was designed by Bob Perry as a smaller version of the successful Valiant 40. In the 1970s, a 30- to 35-foot boat was considered the optimum-size boat for a cruising couple. In response to this demand, the Valiant 32 was produced. About 67 were built in the late 1970s and early '80s. The boat is 32 feet on deck with a waterline length of 26 feet. The beam is 10 feet 5 inches, and displacement is 11,800 pounds. Ballast is 4,700 pounds, and the displacement-to-length ratio is 283. This translates into a boat that is moderate in displacement, yet extremely seaworthy. It has the traditional Valiant lines with the canoe stern and moderate flare at the bow. The underbody features a modified fin keel with external ballast and a skeg-hung rudder. The hull is laid up in solid laminate, and the deck and cabintop is balsa-cored.

Re: Valiant 32 "Amazing Grace"

Congrats! We also have a Valiant (40) and sail her as a cutter. To tack we backwind the staysail, the clew of the jib and the jib sheet slide right over it and around to the other side. Once the jib is set for the new tack, then move the staysail over to the new tack; it is small and moves over easily.

Re: Valiant 32 "Amazing Grace"

Welcome to the Valiant family. Bongo put it perfectly in terms of tacking. And she will sail much better to windward with the staysail than without...faster And higher.

Enjoy!

Did they use "Hetron" flame resistant resin in the 32 as in the 40?
