Vetus water lock on a 68 Pearson 35

My boat has a Vetus 3.10 rebuilt, I just removed the fuel tank to install a new one. Here is the question? From the back of the engine the exhaust hose goes to a Vetus water water lock muffler that the people who reinstalled the new motor put in the very bottom of the bilge. It loops down and then connects the water lock reversed facing the bow of the boat. The other hose then loops up and runs to the stern to a goose neck water lock. Is this ok? As it is a foot below the engine? It looks like there is a mounting plate much higher up so everything is a straight shot that they choose not to use.
Or is this a better approach as the the water lock is secure down there. Anyone else do this on their boat?
It has a antisiphon loop and fitting high in the center of the boat.

I read install as low as possible, can you install to low?

Re: Vetus water lock on a 68 Pearson 35

Hi Jim,
I have similar set up with a Vetus. My understanding is that it's got to be below the engine (which is of course below the water line). There is an instruction sheet that came with my Vetus and I'm trying to locate that for you. The one place I've managed to see it when I click on it, it disappears. My boat doesn't have any of the breather locks on the diagrams though and it's worked fine in the past three years.

Here is one diagram, but it's not the one I was actually looking for. Mine does not have the 'B' at all.

Actually, I just realised if you go to the Vetus web site all the manuals and instructions for installation are on the site. Just pick the water lock that matches yours and then go to the installation Manuel. The following is mine.

VETUS plastic waterlock type LP75, fixed inlet, 76 mm - Waterlocks - Exhaust systems

Can't comment on your installation but here's how my Yanmar 3GM30F is set up. There is an exhaust pipe approximately 18" tall with Yanmar mixing elbow at the top coming off the exhaust manifold that sticks up a few inches above the level of the cockpit sole. From there the exhaust pipe goes to a can muffler about level with base of the block. The can muffler has a vertical outlet pipe that goes nearly to the underside of the cockpit seats and then on a run to the outlet in the lazarette. Has been no issue of back flow including a DDW sail to Hawaii. Thinking about adding a shut off valve in the lazarette just to be doubly safe on downhill runs.
