VHF radio signal

Every time I turn on my VHF radio for weather updates etc, after about 20 seconds an annoying squalk tone interrupts the transmission. I can silence it by pressing the channel selector button, but after about an hour it squalks again! Any ideas out there how to fix this problem?

Make, model, do you have the owners manual? Emergency weather updates are preceded by an alarm on my unit. They don’t go off till I hit one of the buttons, as an acknowledgment.
