Keel stepped masts, it's common to have water at the base after a windy & rainy day. It's good to have a good drainage system away from the mast. Eventually some salt water will get in there durning a rough voyage.


But back to the fuel tank, aluminum tanks are known for corroding from the inside if they've had water in them with the boat sitting still for long periods.
Nature will reclaim its own if left unattended.
