We did it.. New owners Niagara 35

Well, we bit the bullet and bought the new baby.. she is a beautiful Niagara 35.

During the survey, it was noted that the engine access was from the front under the companion way. However, the engine is backwards (pointing aft) which means the access to the belts and such is in the back of the engine compartment.

Does anyone know if there is access to the engine through on of the cockpit lockers. The surveyor didn't think there was... and he climbed down there.

Oh, anything else anyone knows about a Niagara 35 would be awesome!!!

You just bought a fantastic boat. Is it a classic interior with the aft cabin?

You have A v drive which is great. Engine access is better than many boats of that size. You just crawl in to get to the belts. No access from aft.

There is a fantastic Yahoo email group for owners.

PM me any questions. Where are you located?

Thanks Ham... yeah, she is of the classic interior... takes a little bit to get used to, as its different then most boats. But the wood work is fantastic!

I think I am going to have to train the Admiral on how to change the belts.. LOL

PM sent.

Re: We did it.. New owners Niagara 35

I have friends currently cruising in the islands on a 1979 Niagara 35 who've had a lot of engine maintenance experience.

Might wish to politely ask them for their ideas. If they don't know, they know someone who does.

I consider the "classic" interior more appropriate for passagemaking, if that's what you are up for. I also consider the Niagara 35 one of the few boats at that length I would consider taking offshore. It's a good choice if you aren't a hoarder!
