Westerbeke 30 B THREE and JS transmission

Hi All

I'm starting a new thread because the last one went in different directions. Though helpful, not definitive.

Plain and simple...The dipstick on the JS Transmission won't come out / off. I've used penetrant, pry bars, even a pipe wrench but still no luck in getting it loose.

If you have one of these transmissions on your boat, could you send a couple of pictures of the dipstick? Is it held in by O Rings, or does it screw in? Mine is located on the starboard side. Pics would be most helpful.

Thanks, Steve

My boat is an hour away sitting for the winter so can't do a picture right now. I have 1990 vintage of that motor and transmission on my Sabre 34. The JS dipstick on mine just pulls up and out. It has an o-ring or two. It is not threaded.

I wish I could help as I have the exact same engine but with the Hurth transmission. I wish you'll find a solution.

Thanks guys

I met with success by applying heat.
First with a heat gun to lose the residual oil in the area, and then with a propane torch with a fire extinguisher at the ready. This was a slow process.
Indeed the stick has 2 o rings and is a pressure fit. I am able to use the dipstick by replacing the O rings with a slightly smaller size. It can be removed by hand
