I have backed out once already. The price is a real temptation though.

Westsail 32
Monitor Wind Vane
Electric Tiller steering
Heat and Air
Bimini
Steps on the mast
New rigging
The Perkins Diesel (leaks a but of oil and he is using diapers to soak it up)

Sounds like a decent boat.
Yes, the 108s have a rear seal problem and leak oil. They do have newer polymer seals to replace those original cotton ones and typically does the trick.

That bowsprit is really long too.

Backing in is an option, but all depends on the slip. Sometimes better to tuck the bowsprit in out of the wind also.

I like the bowsprit on our boat and can see why they did it in the day. Now w/the slide out pole, you get the same benefit w/o pay extra for slip fees.

Once you get used to it, you will appreciate the sailing advantages of the sprit.

Re: Westsail 32

With my present boat even with an outboard that has a turning range of over 190 degrees, I only back up if required!

My boat is terrible to have to back up.

So I back it out of the slip far enough so I can go forward then I'm through

After that, it's get the autopilot on and the sails up ASAP and get the motor turned off and pulled up unless there is lots of traffic and big wakes.

In that case, I'll leave it down and running along with the sails to get out of the creek as fast as possible and out into the Bay then pull the motor up while heeled over which gets interesting unless I ease the mainsheet
