What is an "Island Trader 41 368"?

On April 28th, 2008, Cruising World dot com did a good write-up on the Island Trader 41s. I'm bettin all of you have read it, ha. Anyway, if you'll look at the web page for that review, you'll see a picture of a gorgeous center cock-pit Island Trader 41 on the right.

There's a caption under the photo that reads "Island Trader 41 368". What does the "368" mean? I've googled it and I get NOTHING on it at all.

Re: What is an "Island Trader 41 368"?

There is nothing on ISLAND TRADER 41 sailboat specifications and details on sailboatdata.com
It could simply mean the specific version of the boat. Eg rig, cabin layout or something along those lines most possibly.

Could it be the "Trans World 41"? They are center cockpit boats.

I'm going with Ranger42c. I don't know how many hulls were built, but my guess is it's "Island Trader 41, Hull #368".

Your answer is probably the most legitimate but that would be the first I've heard/read about it.

Maybe. And that's a pretty good guess too.

How many boats/hulls were built for the Island Trader 41? Also, were they all in sequence? ie,,, hull number 0001, 0002,, and so on.

I just went to sailboatdata dot com and it doesn't tell me.

Several sane suggestions but your guess has my vote.

Re: What is an "Island Trader 41 368"?

Never seen the CC version, but there were a whole bunch of similar boats built from that mold... I forget all the names.... Sea Wolf, Sea Tiger etc. The cabin trunk changed on various models. A lot of deck and cabin trunk rot problems on those boats, but lovely for sure!

Yep. I'm well aware of the things to look out for on these boats. I'm also aware of how long it's been since these boats have been around and as I've read over and over again, a lot of these boats have been fixed up already by previous owners. But, I will make sure to get a VERY GOOD surveyor to check out whatever I decide to make an offer on.

I've been reading quite a lot about these boats in the last week or so because after 3 months of spending "hours-and-hours" trying to decide what boat I want to buy, I have decided a few days ago that these "41er's" as I call them are exactly what I've been looking for. And the fact that they're not a fair winded sailing boat is a plus for me, not a negative. I'm going to be recording music and sometimes with live musicians making song demos. Will leave the marina to turn up the amplifiers of course. I think a sailboat is a great environment for it. Plus I will be living aboard.

Non relevant humor withstanding....

She really is a pretty thing to look at.... This is something you will NEVER regret.... Rowing up or away... Inviting your friends... Or just being at the helm while on a mellow run...

Oh,,, believe me. I fell in love with these boats. The outside style is incredible. "Salty". The layout down below, "perfect" for me, a single musician. And yes, I have a real picture in my head of friends and family seeing the boat and going sailing with me on it. I live, breath and literally dream about these boats (The 41er's with the port-side dinette plan) all the time now. I'm absorbed by them. I already have a slip picked out in the very marina I decided 8 years ago would be where I'd live if I ever did this again. I've been paying on it for three months now.

I have a few things to iron out for about 4 months before I can make offers. I'll have to sit by and be patient.

I hate that part.

Re: What is an "Island Trader 41 368"?

One thing I want to ask anybody reading this. If you know anyone that owns one of these boats, please help me locate them or something, because I really need to see one of these boats in person. The layout down below, just to be absolutely sure.

I've only seen these boats on the internet. I "do" have a pretty good since of proportion when looking at boats on the web. I've looked at several other boat models on the internet and then see them in person and "usually" have no surprises as to what I had in-visioned before I actually saw them.

Just send me a message. I'm in Galveston/Houston area.
Or call me at 281.734 0225. I'll buy the owner of the boat dinner. : )
