What is this sailboat?

Hi,

We came across the attached sailboat and the seller inherited it from a relative and doesn’t really know anything about it. The only clue we have (which can only be so reliable) is that the trailer was manufactured in 1980.

By chance does anyone know the make and model? It’s 13’ long, main and jib sails.

Thanks!

Hello,
It might be best to have the current owner get the information and/or paperwork from the state where it is registered. You will probably need some sort of paper trail to get the titles and registration transferred if you decide to buy it.

It looks like a fun boat, some days I wish I had one that size for messing around the local lakes. Maybe a hair longer but for sure under 17 feet...

If you strike out here you may try the trailer sailor forum

Re: What is this sailboat?

I think I'm not correct, but could it possibly be an Enterprise? Are the sails blue by any chance?

I think Enterprises have a cutout on the transom, the bow is a bit more plumb and the chines don't look quite right, but since there are no other suggestions yet I'll put it out there!

Already going down the past registration route, but it may take some time and thought I would reach out to the community in the mean time.

That’s for the other forum recommendation!

The sails have been replaced in recent years. From what I see it is pretty close to an enterprise, but there are some subtle differences.

Re: What is this sailboat?

Is there a logo or insignia on the mainsail?

Similar perhaps, but Enterprises don’t have those longitudinal buoyancy tanks and,as you say, the shape isn’t quite right.

Nice copy of the brochure at Sailrite: https://www.sailrite.com/Vagabond-14-Sail-Data

So, did you ID it from the logo on the sail like Mr. Cate suggested?
Hoping you enjoy the boat!

Re: What is this sailboat?

Congratulations! BTW you could have ID'ed it from the first part of the HIN, which indicates manufacturer and model...

Re: What is this sailboat?

I did happen to find the HIN etched into the gel coat just under the cutout of the bow (not on the transom) and was able to find the make from that.

Thanks everyone for the comments!

Re: What is this sailboat?

It started out as a Vagabond 14 , then renamed a Holder 14 and than a Hobie 14 !!! built in Coasta Mesa California in the 70 'd and when became a Hobie 14
it was built at their factory and was used as a rental day sailor .
