Re: What is up with red boats?

Not sure about red as a hull color but it would not be a deal breaker. We have polished Aluminium and a white deck - anywhere we stop, people tell us they like the paint job and are surprised to discover it is not painted...

However, we have also found that compliments should not be taken too literally since it seems to be the number one icebreaker when meeting newcomers (even when you are the newcomer). Nobody ever got bent out of shape being told they have a pretty boat and they tend to invite you over for a drink to show it off at closer range.

Re: What is up with red boats?

I bought a red boat, and some years later re-painted her red again. I love the colour on her.

Having said that, I'd never buy a red car, so go figure!

Re: What is up with red boats?

My boat had a bright red stripe on an ivory hull. I say had because now, after 43 years, it has a not so lovely dull pink stripe on an ivory hull. Will it ever get repainted? Not by me. I no longer notice or care.

Oh dear! I was thinking of painting the hull Fire Engine Red, seriously. Guess I won't be sitting with Superseapig and the cool kids in the cafeteria.

Re: What is up with red boats?

If someone prefers a red. blue, black or white hulled vessel or sail cover, their choice.

Perhaps to some it may be like owning a red car, maybe to be different than millions of the grey, black or white vehicles that are pretty much standard in the U.S.A.

Or ,maybe help them to find their vessel when dinking back into a mass of 300 to 400 moored white vessels after a few pain killer drinks at the dockside bar in a new. to them, harbor.

Personally, when bare boating world wide, to help us locate finding our moored or anchor boat in a huge crowded anchorage after being ashore having a grand time, we fly a couple of flags from the flag halyard, that most people do not

( Our state's of residence ). Calif., and Hawaii, and a Pirate Happy Harrggg pennant.

Actually, We don't care what color hulls other peoples boats are, other than to spot friends who own one, and identify them in a mass of moored or anchor boats. We dink over to greet them, have drinks and talk story.

Friendship is precious cargo.

Yeah, if I had to chose between Najad and Catalina, both excellent boats for their own class, I would take a Najad without thinking a sec., which is very much identical to My Contest that came with the original, optional Green strips that are now blue .

In other words, the boat's quality, condition and performance are way more important features.

Our hull is white and the bunting red as you can se from the pics. We've never had a heat problem - even though we have spent more than 3 years in the tropics.

Our books have gotten 5 star reviews on Amazon. Several readers have written "I never thought I would go on a circumnavigation, but when I read these books, I was right there in the cockpit with Vinni and Carsten"

Not mine, but a sister-ship, but I like it in red. I happen to like colors other than white, if not for any other reason, they stand out from the multitude of white boats out on the water...
