What to Buy, What to buy?

So were beginning to plan the purchase of our "Ocean Boat". We Currently own an Islander 32 which will remain our Lake Boat. (We Previously had a San Juan 28 and still race our 19' Lightning centerboard boat).

Just finished reading the Post about IP possibly going under with all the usual IP wrath...

Boat use will be Mainly as a coastal cruiser up and down the east coast as far up as Maine and down to the Bahamas. Will probably want to take at least 1 trip to Bermuda and will eventually want to island hop our way down to the BVI's, maybe out to Antigua. Will not be a live aboard. We will head out for a month or so and then come back to the land lubber life (Grand kids don't ya know ). When not cruising it will be a weekender out of a port somewhere in the vicinity of Charleston, SC.

So the ICW will be in play as will shallow water in Bahama's. But we will be doing some off shore work as well so it will be a bit of a mixed use boat.

Looking for some suggestions of boats to looks at. We will most likely be in the used market. Let someone else eat the depreciation I say. Some boats we were thinking about putting on our list would be the IP 38/40, Tartan or Bristol 40ish CB versions, Sabre 40ish (SD may be a wing which I'm not in favor of). All of these will fit under the ICW bridges and can be shallow draft when necessary.

We Would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions on other boats we might consider and why. I Want to get a list started then start weeding it down and eventually see if we can't get on a few and compare how they sail, comfort, storage space, safety, bang for the buck, etc..

Thanks in advance

Re: What to Buy, What to buy?

I strongly encourage you to consider a Pacific Seacraft. We've got a Pacific Seacraft 37 and we love it. Fabulous and safe boats.
