Talking Whidbey Island on my mind!

Gettin' close. Leave May the 8th for Whidbey Island and several weeks(maybe all summer, but who knows) sailing the PNW. God how I hate livin' in Ohio but Mama won't move, so whatta ya gonna do?? But while I'm at it I was wondering whether to Lazy Jack or not to Lazy Jack on my Catalina. I've got a set on my li'l Windrose. Doesn't seem to make much difference single handing on that boat, but I'm thinkin' it might help in some situations on the Catalina. Tell me what you think. All opinions appreciated.

Can't comment on the Lazy Jack, but watch those currents in Deception Pass on the north side of the island.

Aloha TBrad,
I don't think I'd bother with lazy jacks on a 27 unless you are doing a lot of sail dropping.
You've got a beautiful place to sail there and I checked out the Oak Harbor marina once when I was staying at the Navy Lodge there. Is that where you have your boat?
kind regards,

If you see Flexible Flyer out there, stop by and say "Hi".

Re: Whidbey Island on my mind!

I have a new main and I had to install lazy jacks because the sail would not flake. The jacks just made things a lot more convient. Michael..

25 years or so since I sailed around Whidbey.

I remember a great place called Captain Whidbey Inn, where they made the most delicious Eggs Benedict with fresh Dungeness crab from pots in their bay.

Hope it is still there for you

It's definitely there.
As Gord would put it:

Let me google that for you

Yeah John. My son's stationed at Whidbey NAS. I visited several times and each time it broke my heart not to be able to be out on the water. So I bought a boat and slipped it in the Oak Harbor Marina. I commute back and forth between Oak Harbor and Englewood, Ohio. Manage to spend a few months each year out there. By the by I often jog past the Navy Lodge. We sailed out of Kaneohe Bay when Ryan was stationed on Oahu. Loved Hawaii but in some ways love the PNW even more.

I'll keep myu eye peeled for you senor. I sail out of Oak Harbor and get up to Anacortes quite often. It'd be a real hoot to get to meet you! Beer'll be on me.
