When did we come to that agreement?

Depends entirely on what your doing and what your budget is.

Some can be very beautiful...and a catamaran provides a very comfortable vantage point to watch that beauty while the poor souls actually on the boat cling to the deck.

If you are going for maximum performance, you want the leeward board down as it's digging a bit deeper with the leeward hull pressed down.

Sailing conservatively or in bad conditions, you want the windward board down. If the boat lifts a hull, the board pulls out of the water, looses it's grip and you slide sideways dissipating the overturning force.

No umbrella drinks - they must have all slid off the deck

Going to the head must be exciting too.

That boat was not built for comfort. Some of the passengers that day, maybe, but the boat? Not.

However, we never noticed, not from day one 34 years ago, that inconvenience.

Ignorance, I guess.

I’m sure she’s much more comfortable with 2 aboard rather than 15!

They all look like there having fun, probably very happy they couldn’t be on a safer type of sail boat. Also probably happy in the knowledge that they are not like a lot of the soft c*cks that need a level platform to be able to find there way to the toilet, or don’t know how to use a drink holder, or got to wrap themselves in cotton wool to feel comfortable. Maybe some of them should go back to a mono to get there manhood back. Or just maybe, we should stop trying to justify what we own, or mine is better than yours BS.

Can I just quietly say that photo reminds me of all the fun sailing is to me. It's exciting, the boats leaning and you really feel like you are rocketing along. Now your average cat at that speed is a flat platform and you just do not seem so engaged with the elements. A bit like being in a sports car with the top up and air conditioning on.
Cheers

For a 2hr cruise, it's likely quite exciting and fun.

For some reason, I keep thinking rent vs buy...but then it turns inappropriate.

Are you sure its not a 3 hour cruise?

Actually reminds me of a snorkel trip I was on as a kid on a catamaran. On they way out, it was short 6ft waves and we must have been blasting along in the low teens. My mom sat comfortably in the cockpit. Those who wanted to could go ride up on the trampoline and every wave you would have to hang on or go airborne as the wave hit the trampoline. When people got tired of the excitement, they could go in the back and be comfortable for a while.

Of course, the crew were doing it purposely. They could have easily have bore off a bit and the ride would have smoothed out...but to do the same with your "home" for days on end, no thanks.

Re: Why do you guys like monohulls so much?

I got slightly seasick on the Chesapeake Bay on an Atlantic 57 going 10-13 knots maybe due to the short quick acceleration/deceleration cycles. I never get seasick on the Chesapeake in my monohull unless it’s fixing a head clog in heavy seas. I’m sure I could get used to it though. Maybe slowing it down to my boat’s 6-8 knots would have helped.

Of course that boat will never know as it’s the one that flipped offshore in a microburst or waterspout. Not judging just saying.

Reminds me of the snorkeling trip we took with our friends on their 36’ monohull. Picked up a mooring ball and the rolling was atrocious. The captain was sea sick and spent his time down below in his bunk. I spent my time between snorkeling and hanging out on the charter catamaran next to us. No rolling on the cat and none of the customers were seasick.
