Re: Yamaha21

Do you mean the Yamaha heavy duty Diesel engine, the Yamaha high speed Toyota derivative diesel engine ,the Yamaha jet ski engine or the Yamaha outboard motor?

Re: Yamaha21

And, what do you need? Owner's manual, experience with idiosyncratic failures, touch up paint?

Re: Yamaha21

This is a sailboat built in 1979. It was abandoned in a marina yard. They cleaned it up and are going to sell it. Great shape, just needs sails. Yamaha was no help and neither was Yamaha Japan.

That narrows it down to the Toyota Yamaha and the heavyweight cast iron twin cyl with electric and hand crank. There have been more confirmed sightings of Bigfoot than of either of these two Yamaha models and I actually had one of the heavy cast iron one that was given to me after bending both conrods after hydrolocking. I kept it for years and finally sent it to the scrapyard after seeing that the internal damage made it un repairable.
If yours is the heavy chunky model, it should last FOREVER provided the wet exhaust doesn’t kill it.Click image for larger version

Re: Yamaha21

He's talking about a sailboat model not an engine...

Re: Yamaha21

I have surveyed two of the 30 foot Yamaha yachts and both times I was impressed with the build quality.
Cheers
