You guys on the left coast missed it!

I've been looking for a new windlass for our Choey Lee Midshipman. Our 50 year old manual is pretty much worn out. I had a Sea tiger 555 on our previous boat and wanted to find one for this one. It's a great windlass. My son, at age 10, could retrieve our 60 CQR. I paid about $1200 for that one.

I guess they don't make them anymore. Imagine my surprise when I was searching with a search program and found an expired ad for one on the west coast. Fortunately, the first line of the ad had the phone number in it even though the real ad had expired. Imagine my bigger surprise when I found nobody ever called him during the 2 months while the ad was active.

And then, to find it was new in the box for $450?

It's now gone from the west coast and it'll be on our midshipman soon.

You guys need to watch the ads closer!

I like my powered windlass...

Yes, I would have let that one pass because of the shipping costs to a lefter area. Good price and new it should give you lots of years of use. Not made anymore and parts are bit hard to find but you shouldn't need any for quite a time.
Well done!

Ouch! And you are more right than you realize - I own several boats. Low IQ, I guess.

Re: You guys on the left coast missed it!

Oh, just found this on the web.

"Just an FYI for those of you who have this manual windlass and need parts and or advice on anything at all about how to repair it etc. John McMaster used to apparently work for Lewmar, left and went back to them to get the rights to manufacture and sell these windlasses again after Lewmar stopped making them. This chap is in the UK and has every part and also sells them new. I overhauled mine with some new parts and changed the gypsy to a accept G40 5/16" chain. The guy is legit and the parts I purchased worked perfectly...and he is incredibly helpful...

John McMaster can be reached at sl.spares@ntlworld.com ... not sure if he has a website."
