Z-spar rigid vang on Seldén mast and boom

Hi guys,

I was wondering if any of you has installed a Z-spar rigid vang with a Seldén mast and boom configuration. Did yo find any compatibility problems? Z-spars rigid vangs are 1/3 the price of a Seldén rodkicker!

Thank you!

Re: Z-spar rigid vang on Seldén mast and boom

The terminals on both vangs appear quite similar, so it would appear that if you can get the Z-spars unit to attach to your boom, it should work. The Seldèn vang has a gas-piston inside, while the Z-spars depends upon a loaded spring. This might account for the price difference, with the gas piston holding up better than the spring, which might get fatigued.

Re: Z-spar rigid vang on Seldén mast and boom

Thank you psdk125!

Well, we tried today a Zspar and the terminals were different. Not possible to install it without some machinery on the Seldén terminals which I am not confident with.

The thing is that I was looking at a Rodkicker Type 30 for our Bavaria 44 because that is what Seldén recommends in their Web page, BUT, looking closely to the specs, it is clearly an overkill.

If I enter to the specs table, I notice that a Type 20 Rodkicker (half the price of the Type 30) should do just fine.

Anyone has experience something similar?

Best to all.
