150k Sailing Cat

Not what I am looking but I think this builder is really hitting a segment that no one else does.

Re: 150k Sailing Cat

Open deck cats aren't a new idea. Wharrams have been around for ages. Maincat and Gemini Freestyle are a similar production boats.

Re: 150k Sailing Cat

Yeah, but neither Maincat nor Gemini hit this price spot.
The only cats that come close, are to my knowledge Broadblue 346 und the Aventura 34. Both are a bit larger an a bit more exspansive. But both have a closed bridgedeck.
There seems to be a closed version of the Smart Cat as well, but there seem to only exist 3D images of.

Look at the Wharms. They have smaller options and you can get one professionally built. They are designed heavily focused on price.

Of course the Maincat and Gemini are both larger, so yeah, they will cost more but make sure you compare apples to apples looking at the options that are included. It's easy to add tens of thousands in options.

If you want small and cheap (about $40k) open deck weekend cat, the tomcat 6.2 is an option but even more limited on interior living space.

Broadblue and Aventura are not really similar.

Re: 150k Sailing Cat

I would rather buy a used MC 30 than one of these.
The outboard installation tells all. If you can’t get that right then what else isn’t well thought out?

The YouTube channel Learning The Lines did a two parts video in this boat

https://youtu.be/AErdPgIzcD8

It looks like is a great weekender boat with some room for improvement as the self tacking job is too small, my guess is they can use a Code 0 or a Gennaker to move things along.

There is a model here in Miami and I briefly communicated with the USA dealer on interior questions. The galley only works while connected at dockside, so in my mind is a waste of the design, much better to go back to propane and 12 volt refrigeration.

Probably the biggest issue is that the dealer is not a sailor and does not have the experience on reef points, main sheet track system, solar panels, or centering weight to avoid hobbie horsing. Just extending the transom a couple of feet will cure current issues, moving the sail track aft one ft will Mae use of the drop down stern seats.

As for the Tomcat 9.7, I have not seen one for the quoted $60K, some around $80 to $140K which is very competitive. Be drawback in aesthetics for me in particular is too much wood accents for my taste, but it is 32 ft by 18 ft and better performance

Tomcat 6.2 not Tomcat 9.7...a bit smaller than the boat that started the thread.
