Excerpted from: Solaris Sunstream 36 Catamaran
Used Solaris Sunstream 36 catamaran for sale - Toucan Dream
“The Solaris Sunstar 36, not to be confused with the older style Sunstream 36, is often referred to as the “modern-looking” Solaris and some compare her to a smaller Manta 38 or Lagoon 37. The current owners have been living aboard her happily for years but must now come ashore. Be sure to see this well equipped cat.”

Try to find a copy of Chuck Kanter's book - I've forgotten the name of it - that describes the various makes and models of catamarans. I am quite sure that the Solaris is in there.

Hi WSTU, I have the 1994 'Sailors Multihull Guide' which has the full specs.diagrams and layouts plus a picture on the inside back cover of the Sunstar 32, the 36 is purely a lengthened version.
If you like I can scan the 2 pages and the picture next Monday when I am back at work and email them directly to you if you give me your email address.

Thanks that would be great. You can send it to wrstuart@sbcglobal.net. The one at Morro Bay is the one we are looking at. I am just trying to find info on that make, etc.

pirate Aries is a great catamaran

I was just reading this post while sitting on the hard for a refit. Having been on 2 other solaris sunstar 36 cats besides mine I have found out quite a bit about this production design while aboard manatee anchored at st. thomas I noticed they made a few changes when they molded mine to drop the cockpit depth which changed the rear birth layouts. I will be cruising the islands till sep but if you want to check out the boat when I get back to mb give me a call.

Sunstar

Hello Wayne,

I do not know the Sunstar personally but I do know the man who made it.
His name is Malcolm Taylor.
He owned and ran Solaris Yachts for about 25 years until the factory burned down.
He now lives in Sarasota, Fla..
The Sunstar is the predecessor to Manta. Same designer.
I belive the 36" Sunstar is a stretched version of a 32' Sunstar cat.
The Manta was originally built from an expanded set of plans of the 32' Sunstar version and they ended up with a Canadian made 38' Manta.
Then it was stretched to 40' when brought to the states, and then 42'.

The Sunstar in California I believe was bought as a sail-away and the interior was fitted out by the U.S purchaser.

this cat was originally designed as a passion 32 , which is a french cat designed by erik le rouge , in 1992 there are one or two for sale in france , it had a central outboard and its design weight was 3.2 tons , i have original drawings by the designer . the 36 had transom extended as a moulded option , but just added 4 ft , to the waterline , not the interior . the 36 also had a z spars double spreader rig 1.9 metres taller i have now extended the bows to make her 37.9 overall . it has given the boat better balance and more speed .

I may be wrong but I believe the Sunstar and Passion both came from the molds of the Jeffcat 32. The Manta mold was pulled of a Jeffcat 42 and cut down 4 feet. And the Ocean 48 pulled of a Freydis 43 or 46, all Eric Lerouge designs.
