42-45 Cat with 2 heads?

I've been searching for weeks and can't find a floorplan that seems acceptable for my family. We are 5 total, with 3 kids and also would like to be able to accommodate the occasional guest. My budget would prefer 42-45 ft, but all of those boats seem to have 4+ heads. That seems like an incredible waste of precious space. I certainly understand it may be necessity for charter, but not for a family. I do need 4 cabins, so the owners versions are not an option.

Any suggestions on a mid 40s cat without 4 heads?

Used - Belize 43

New - Catana 42

These likely will have less room than say a Lagoon 42 or 440 even with 4 bathrooms, you need to look at hull volume and beam too.

Re: 42-45 Cat with 2 heads?

We are a cruising family of 6 and had the exact same thought when choosing our cat. We couldn’t find a layout in our budget that had two heads. So what we ended up doing is converting one head to a stand-alone shower and one head to a small storage and laundry room. That left us with a toilet in each hull, one of which is still a wet head for any guests.

After all is said and done, I am glad we did it this way as we ended up with more options than just having two larger heads. It also gives some flexibility to add back in a toilet as our kids get older and maybe need more space.

The Leopard 40 was the closest we got to a 4 cabin, 2 head boat.

Most owners versions come with three heads.
Convert one into laundry room and wet locker.

Re: 42-45 Cat with 2 heads?

You didn't say if you were looking at used or new.. but I absolutely LOVE the Nautitech 46 fly. What they have is a "jack and jill" head in the guest hull. there is actually 2 "heads" per hull... each birth (fore and aft) have their own private head... but then they share a full stand up shower which is mid hull. So, there are connecting doors on each "head" that allows them to enter the shower. It's a really neat design, a much more efficient use of space

I do like the floorplan of the Nautitech; however, out of my budget. I'm looking used 400-500K ready to sail.
