Re: About to buy this boat

Jackiemelni you are completely missing the philosophy of owning a Wharram, a toilet, running water and loose design interpretation by the owner/builder is all part of Wharram ownership. Along with monogamy and clothing these are all optional when you own one of these cats.
James Wharram was miles in front with the sex sells campaign when he crossed the Atlantic Ocean on a 23-foot Wharram with two women.

Cheers

I reckon if you are going to do a cat out of ply there are far better designs.
Edit - I know there are far better designs.

Yeah i know, but thats why I want to get a bigger one to have a place for this stuff.

I dont care to live in the open under a bit of shade naked, but I dont want to take a load in a bucket (or my passangers).
And to get rinsed in fresh water from time to time.
Especially I want a bit of space for my kitesurf gear and not to walk on it. 😬

Re: About to buy this boat

Regardless of design, I reckon a $50k plywood anything over 35ft is going to have plenty of issues.
And check out insurance
You likely won't be using a marina or a repair yard in Oz without it.

A minute on google found this
I'd be trying to bang them down on price

Re: About to buy this boat

Jackiemelni Easy Cats are pretty popular plywood catamarans and Mike Waller has a few nice cats as well.
Simi 60 you might have been going 3x the speed, but did you have 3x as many topless woman?
I have sailed a fair bit on a Pahi 42 and was surprised how well she performed on the right angle..........

No topless women on the wharrams we have seen
Usually single nude men

Compared to what.
And what about that windward angle?

I spent a weekend on one in Holland in the 70's.
The accommodation is pretty cramped.
Essentially a plywood one-man tent with the pointy bit at the bottom.

Good sea boats but very basic living.

Of course it's not, it's only $70k

But the hulls are composite, being a Crowther likely foam sandwich instead of ply

Dunno what models you sailed past, the old designs like the Tangaroa's and Akiri's were pretty heavy with their timber frames but the new stitch and glue designs like the Tiki's are a different league..
My old Tiki 21 gave a Farrier 26 a run for her money a time or two on the South Coast hitting 11kts+ and my old Tiki 26 has skipped past a few freighters touching 16kts in a fresh SW'ly on Channel crossings to and from France.
But... its the man makes the boat, not the other way round.. and boat can be a piece of **** if not tended well..
