Probably should have been separate paragraphs too, but I got it.
Anyone with a good grasp of the English language would have got it.

Re: Any issues with this custom catamaran for circumnavigation?

I have friends out of New Castle who came to the US to buy a big 50ft Wharam designed Cat for $0.10 on the dollar after it was hit by lightning (on the dock right beside my boat.)
The name of the boat was Nootka Dancer and looked very interesting with her carbon fiber Aero rig. They spent many Aus $ and 4 years getting her ready to cross the Pacific. After a marine survey the day finally arrived when they set sail with a brand new life raft. One day into their journey to the Bahamas they experienced a catastrophic structural failure and the boat went down off the coast of Florida near Jacksonville. All hands (family of four) were saved thanks to the new life raft. Seas at the time were 2-3ft and light winds. The suspected cause of the failure was the massive aero rig was to much weight for the design. So do your home work and due diligence.

It's a bit rude to still call that thing a Wharram design after what John Eisen did to it.

Re: Any issues with this custom catamaran for circumnavigation?

Interesting to note this vessel is still for sale! Resale or original listing I do not know.
I have enquired of the agent, and will be suitably armed with many questions.
Our purpose is a "toe dipping" in catamaran coastal cruising. No issue with epoxy/ply and a big fan of outboards in lightweight applications. My only issue is the price. I could get a lot of mono-hull for that! (yes I know all the arguments so please don't start up!) But on the flip side that works when it comes time to part with it. Unfortunately, not much info regarding designer or builder.
Lets see what the agent and or owner have to say.
Cheers

Re: Any issues with this custom catamaran for circumnavigation?

Hi...I have owned and built several sailing cats in my life. One was called HEARTBEAT and I believe it is up Hervey Bay way - a 38’ .
Stupidly I put Honda 20hp outboards into it and got to hate those engines. They were extra long shaft, as per this boat, and were terrible in reverse and cavitated badly. By contrast the 9.9hp yamahas are brilliant, both in forward and reverse..I did one catamaran with twin 25hp yamahas and they were also brilliant.
Sorry but leave the Honda’s to the powerboat fraternity.
Cheers

Also, I strongly recommend you stick with “named” designs...especially if you ever wanna sell it. The boat is priced low because it’s unknown, that’s just how it is...have a look at Peter Snells designs called EASY. They are very well known in Australian waters and have stood the test of time - AND, well priced

You have to put the right props on the Hondas.

We currently have a 38’ cat with a single Honda 15 and a 40’ cat with twin Honda 9.9’s. To be honest we have been really impressed with the thrust both in forward and reverse, something we thought may have been a problem.

Tried that even put them deeper into the water...nothing fixed the lack of power into reverse...by contrast the Yamaha s worked perfectly from day 1 of installation.
No I'm not a Yamaha dealer just an old time catamaran guy.
