This one seems to be hotter than the Webers, so you don't have to keep the lid closed and it sears the meat much better. All aluminium and seems well made.

Our Sovereign BBQ is 10 years old and still going strong; not cheap but great quality and good support. We have the Alpha.. use it all the time; never blows and gets REALLY hot... Alpha Flat Plate BBQ (Gas) 316 S/S - Sovereign BBQs

You still can put charcoal on a gas grill, specially if it has some vents at the bottom for air. Just make a rack to hold the briquettes. Makes a mess though.

2nd the webber.

Recently installed ours on custom mount as part of the solar frame, love it already.

Gas is in a locker on the stern with drain hose, any leak is going over the side.
BBQ Easily clears the Dinghy.

some of these models can be used on the cockpit table or on a moulded seat, it will save you even more money.

We have a winner !

This grill has excited and vocal fans up and down the dock. I haven't cooked on it myself but I've enjoyed many delicious meals off this model.

Maybe the Boat Galley will do us a comparison article on grills.

Does it do well at low temperature? My complaint with most gas grills is the outrageous heat even on "low". Something like that shouldn't be too hard to fabricate.

A simple solution for controlling the flame/heat is to remove the gas valve that comes with the BBQ and put a simple (and cheap) high pressure valve. This way you can control the gas flow completely- from almost nothing to high heat. I went this route when my original gás valve died and I couldn't find a replacement in Brazil. I think most hardware stores sell them.
