Beneteau 47.7 Bottom bearing, HELP

On the slips ATM! Among all these other problems one big one occurred this week. As I dropped the rudder due to stiff steering, discovered the bearing in bad shape. The receptor (cast metal for bearing) was corroded and the plastic ring where the pencil bearings sit was cracked. Cant get one from Beneteau for 6 weeks! Anybody out there who knows something?

Re: Beneteau 47.7 Bottom bearing, HELP

Can a shipwright fix it/them?

The bottom bearing on mine could be fixed, however I had been advised to preorder from Beneteau so I didn't have a delay on the hard.

So I wasted lotsa money.

If the bottom bearing is like mine you just polish it up and cut another small slice verticaly if it needs closing up a bit. Then its good as new

Dunno about the top bearing but its only nylon so anyone in that buisness could make you a new one, couldn't they?

Good luck!

Mark, it got damaged :-( New one is priced AUD2k!!!!! Bloody outrageous. Spoke to few plastic experts and we are talking about inject moulding and would cost AUD40k to set up a tool to make one. They said that Beneteau is likely to be only one with the mould. Sellers market, eh!

Ouch!

Maybe you can try a sweep oar off the stern?

Good luck with it.
