Galley down on the other hand you normally get a good portion of the length of the hull for the sink and hobs, plus the other side for worktops and cupboards.

The galley up works for people that can't stand to be apart for a little while whilst cooking. Perhaps day trips, charters and those that easily get seasick, or for parties. Galley down seems more suited to long term cruising and families.

I think Broadblue have Galley down options still.

I've mentioned them twice now in this thread. Never really though about them much before. I suppose that means I'm going to have to buy one now.

p.s All that being said, I've been on a 60' cat with galley up, but it was big enough that its galley was large and spacious and like a whole other room.
Exactly what I thought.

I'm discussing a cruise with my wife and kid, and wife finally agreed, my son's fully into it, but we don't have emotional umbilical cords attached to each other, hence I can easily see my son, his best friend, possibly his girlfriend, having their social space in the salon. Everyone's lining up time to take sailing lessons and is very excited even though we haven't bought a boat yet (trip is in two years).

The fun part is, we're looking at the scenario of keeping the boat permanently, no chance of resale, so this means my wife is looking at this as a permanent second home or even home, she has only one request, galley down.

I've lived aboard before, but now with family, this next boat hunt is going to be interesting. I'm definitely going to look up Broadblue, I would love to make that wish come true for the wife.

Cheers!

Don't Privilege also have galley down?

They do, but only 50 ft+ I'm trying to see if there is a sub 50 footer being offered with galley down.

Worst case scenario, I'll just have to go 50+ or perhaps a tear down and refit on a good hull.

Again, quite sorry, I can't seem to fully grasp this. I have spoken to manufacturers and have gotten various answers but would really like some feedback from people who are already out there?

I looked at the offerings for the 14m or 15m version, it's a bit "meh" and I'm willing to bet it's going somewhere near $1M.
Most built-for-charter boats will have the galley up.

Seawinds have galley down, AFAIK Lightwave cat's do too.

This Lightwave company is looking good, I haven't heard of them before, but then again, fun part of living in Toronto, brand exposure is not as good.

Thank you for this.

Cheers!

The Lightwave 45 is an impressive boat. Seriously good bridgedeck clearance.

I love the family layout and dagger boards at that. I even love the angled sides, the salon becomes less of a sail at the inopportune moment. How I missed this brand I have no idea, this is a contender.

I noticed that the XCS logo is lifting just a bit. They might want to fix that.

Antares 44 also has a galley down feature.

I think it's just the opposite, group of companies (whatever the holding name is) owns Jeanneau, Beneteau and Lagoons. Beneteau had a catamaran (Lagoon) and now they placed this new catamaran under Jeanneau management.
After all, they all belong to the same family and strangly enough, their main business is not boating (this makes only 1/3 of sales) but prefabricated houses and the like.
Three years ago I was visited by a marketing team hired by Jeanneau who were researching the market and trying to figure out to decide where to position the brand.

Cheers

Re: Beneteau Excess Catamarans Launched

To me, she's 50% LAgoon, 35% FP and 15 % Nautitech. And unfortunately she didn't necessarily picked up the best aspects of all of these three brands..
Any news about their prices ??

Cheers

Yes, they are quite heavy. The 48 foot model shows a displacement of 40,500 pounds which is 10% more than a new Lagoon 46.

Nicely said about brands that are either gone or have been thru bankruptcy. I would suggest if you are selling anything, sell something people want, not what you think they need. If you do, you may be able to afford a cat.
