Re: Bowsprit 40cm off the center possible?

Much easier way to get a form for the crossmember:
1) take a small sheet of polycarbonat or acrylic and a heatgun, top and bottom of crossmember is identical so lay it on top and heat it up till it adapts to the form of crossmember, done is your form
2) if a bit more complex shape wax the piece and drop a piece of cotton cloth on it, it sticks because of the wax and spray the piece with tension varnish, let it dry and ready is your form.
If you have some byspray right away clean it off with a bit aceton. Tension varnish is used for eg building sailing planes when building the wings. They just span the cloth over the wooden frame and spray it with the tension varnish and it tensions the cloth so surface is even and also sturdy.
Thats how we done our forms in motorsports.
Much easier and less dangerous for the original part then working with resins on them.
Eg a hood we just waxed it, dropped an old bedsheet on it and sprayed it with tension varnish, let it dry and theoretically you take off but its a bit woobly as its big so after first layer is dried we take another bedsheet on top without seperation wax and spray it with tension varnish and when its still sticky put some wooden sticks on and over it another layer of bedsheet on, spray that again and let it dry... and ready is your negative form of eg a metal hood of a R56 Mini. No mess and danger for the part.

Re: Bowsprit 40cm off the center possible?

Phil thats pic of a Lavezzi with a forspar bowsprit.
Same setup, just move the pole to the anchor roller.
I could even mount it on the side facing inwards more towards center with a longer bolt and keep the roller.
Mounted on the side the pole would then slightly face upward angle but thats the exact same angle the original bowsprit does so will work.
