Re: Catamaran Haul-Out Marinas

I've created an updated cat haul out list that was originally based off Cote's document. It's more or less up to date. I've modified it for my own purposes but it could also be useful to multihull owners in this group. Feel free to share.

Once upon a time, Ocean Marine in Portsmouth, VA was composed of two businesses: Ocean Marine Marina and Ocean Marine Yacht Yard which was a repair, storage and indooe dry storage facility. The yard business went bankrupt for the second time and was purchased by local businessman and renamed Fairlead. With rare exception, its customer base is military/commercial; no private yachts, no dry storage. Too bad as they have the primo railway in the area for serving yachts, as well as a travel lift that could just haul a Manta 42 MKll. I once saw the catamaran Cheyenne hauled out on the rails.

In this area, the boat/yacht yards are fast closing or being converted. And, this is especially true for the DIY.

The Ocean Marine Marina is still in business but has no haul out or repair facility.

Re: Catamaran Haul-Out Marinas

We should do a west coast (US) version too. I’ll
Start.
Port Townsend WA has 2 marinas with haulout facilities. Boat Haven is the biggest with 375 slips and 2 travelifts. They have a 300 ton monster with a beam of around 30’ plus a regular sized one. They allow DIY and have many boaty shops right there.

All the way on the other side of town is the Point Hudson Marina. They have a standard lift and yard. Don’t know about DIY

Sandcrab, I would be happy to work on a West Coast / Pacific version if other users would like to contribute yard recommendations. My left coast knowledge is not as comprehensive as I spent most of my career in the Caribbean.

Re: Catamaran Haul-Out Marinas

Just spoke to Bridgeton Boatworks and they can handle about 23’ of beam not 25’.
Also Bob and Annie’s in Pine Island Fl. No longer have their railway so I believe they can handle up to 18’ with their travel lift, the 40’ max beam is history.

Scorpion Marine in Cape Canaveral
Safe Harbor Harbortown in Ft. Pierce

They will each do at least 27, maybe 30.

Re: Catamaran Haul-Out Marinas

Wow, Thanks. I do know that Thunderbolt can handle 31+ beam. Jarret Bay can too but the have a bridge with a 75' clearance.

Re: Catamaran Haul-Out Marinas

In response to tjmoquin's post, please note that the bridge to get to Jarrett Bay has a 65' clearance (not 75' as noted). It is part of the ICW. We used to store our catamaran there until they eliminated the bascule bridge and thus we could no longer (with a 70' stick) get under the fixed bridge.

Oh wow. That's even worse. LOL. Our mast is 94 feet. We'd be in big trouble.

Almost. There cut off is 30. We are 31. Darn, it's so hard to find a place. I really don't want to spend $10K.
