Re: Catamaran with no mini keels our daggerboards?

Rudy Choy assisted with the design and served on the committee of the replica Polynesian voyaging canoe Hokule'a. Warren Seaman, the S of CSK, helped with the build which featured double diagonal construction in the 1970s. This canoe is still voyaging today. Back then it did a voyage with traditional Polynesian navigation, no instruments, to Tahiti to prove out the concept. Ben Phinney, the professor behind the research wrote a book "Hokule'a" covering the conception and voyage which features some of the challenges of cruising by committee. The K of CSK was Alfred Kumalae a talented builder.

This was a fantastic project and was recreated more recently. It instilled a previously unseen pride in many of the youth gangs in Hawaii. The "traditional" 60ft plus double canoe weighed in at about 12 tonnes something a modern cats find hard to achieve. Met "the navigator" in Mauritius, very gentle unassuming sole. The big steel mono that escorted them on the trip and carried the GPS for emergencies, had trouble keeping up. But I digress.
