Chris White Atlantic 47 Mastfoil Dismasted

I believe this was the first one. There is some scuttlebutt about another one called Pounce having some issue at a dock in Virginia. Dang, I liked those boats. The saga starts about 3/4 down this page.

The mast in one piece hanging in one side, to me sounds the mast just get dislodge from the mast step , could be a wave or a combination.
I never believe to much in this kind of experiments,,, gime spreaders and a mainsail anytime,......

If people don't experiment then nothing moves forward

Good back up and service by the mast suppliers. They will learn and make the system better.

I applaud Chris for going out on a limb and for the people who bought these boats.

Re: Chris White Atlantic 47 Mastfoil Dismasted

Wow, I unfortunately read Chan's blog last night. I'm sorry but that guy has one really bad boat. In the 3 hours it took to read all the posts I don't think there any periods where he wasn't dealing with a problem with the boat, from minor to serious.

It may be normal to have bugs on a new build, but the problems with this boat go way beyond that. And if it's true that two of the 4 builds have already lost their rigs, that seems to be a serious design problem. Not good and if I was one of these pioneering owners I'd be freaking out right now.
