Confused About Manufacturers

I'm somewhat confused about some cats and their named manufacturers. For example:

1. I see some boats that are listed as Robertson and Caine
2. I see some boats that are listed as Robertson and Caine Leopard
3. and then I see boats that are listed as just Leopards.

Then I see:

1. Jeantot Marine
2. Jeantot Marine Privilege
3. Alliaura Privilege
4. Just privilege

Do you see why I'm confused?! Are these boats different manufacturers? or are they all the same? and if so... can I trust that a Jeantot Marine Privilege is the same quality and standards as an Alliaura Privilege? Same thing for the R&C/leopard issue..

Can someone clear this up? or give me a history or something to help me understand?

Re: Confused About Manufacturers

I have a privilege 39 made by Jeantot Marine. That was the original company in Sable d'Olonnes in France. They had big production runs of Privilege 39 and Privilege 48 originally. Then the company morphed with lots of different models and changes in ownership. Our Privilege 39 was well built, and I have never had structural problems during our eleven year circumnavigation. I cannot speak to the quality of construction when the company changed ownership.

Just saw Exit Only in Ft. Pierce a few days ago.

Re: Confused About Manufacturers

Exit Only needs a refit before the next adventure. I hope it won't be too far in the future. I can hear the call of the South Pacific and Australia once again.

Re: Confused About Manufacturers

Robertson & Caine make the Leopard line and are one and the same. I think the Leopard name was adopted later on so the early ones were just R&C. Some of these are rebranded as a Sunsail or a Moorings model if made exclusively for charter. I started a thread about Leopard being the largest supplier of cats to North America.
It's all here:
Robertson and Caine | Overview

Re: Confused About Manufacturers

Companies change names because they merge, get sold or simply for marketing if a particular name gets a good or bad reputation.

Re: Confused About Manufacturers

And Catana was purchased by Poncin Yachts in about 2003. They also make the Harmony line.

Scarlet, I have some muscle relaxers if you think that will help.
