Yes a simple boom tent type tarp makes a huge difference. The heat from the sun stops at the tarp keeping the cabin top cool. Most cabins/decks are 'insulated" via balsa core, but still get hot.

Insulation in the decks, coach roof topside is best done during the build. Otherwise it is a ginormous pain in the butt to do afterwards. That being said, it may be stiff worth it as there is a BIG difference with it installed.
