Re: Corsair alternatives for a liveaboard ?

I'm inclined to agree with the bit that GB going bankrupt was a while in the making, & it resulted from more than poor decisions on the part of management. Though those sure didn't help. But when the head of the company starts using catch phrases & buzz words to explain the company's failing, it says to me that those in charge screwed the pooch, repeatedly, & never in a small manner.

There were also some pretty obvious engineering & design goofs that hurt them too... signed off on by management. Some of them very public, & others not so much... unless you were paying attention. Which, perspective buyers likely do.

The other thing is that the market segment which they operated in is one where it doesn't take a lot of mistakes to sink a company. Even more so than the standard sailboat market, where the lifespan of most boat producers is pretty short to begin with. So building & selling boats in a super rarified market segment is exponentially tougher.

It was fun to watch their rise, & they made some neat toys. But... how's that cliche go about money & boat building...

Heh Gentlemen, Peter J. admits to everything you all said or alluded to. A combination of many problems that led to the demise of his company. The capsize and the abandonment of Rainmaker further exasperated his sales issues. Allowing the Chinese to start making his boats was a huge mistake. It costs him millions to sort it out.
