True. They do it as a rule. Making our president very angry - as they always forget about the time zones. Last time we got boarded, we got our boating license nearly cancelled - our Parliament was right in the middle of the summer break and getting all our MPs to abandon their families, go to the Moscow, vote, disagree, vote again then finally agree on a 25x9ft piece of their country invaded by alien forces was quite a task.

On their leaving, US Navy will also confiscate all your dildos and chewing gum. Bastards.

Very freaking irritating attitude, in fact.

I actually was feeling kinda sorry for all that BS happening right now in states. But after reading things like this I have strong feeling - if country is behaving this way - it MUST go to <where it goes right now>.

Also speak with your insurance company

Many have flag state restrictions

If all you intend is to register a normal (not a superyacht) for private only cruising, just register the boat in the USA and sail away.

Foreign flags are mainly for avoiding tax from income and hiding undeclared funds.
Or - if your home flag is not welcome in most of the world, which is not your case (do not try to enter Iranian waters...)

I would suggest you continue to empathise with fate of people living in the USA, as this is not unilateral by the USA. It is based on bilateral and multilateral agreements around the world, and is true for navy ships from many countries. The US just has a lot more of them than anyone else!

The US Jones Act is a burden for US flags

Insurance is a burden for the US flag

Nothing is perfect

Traditionally the British flag was a good alternative to the US flag

With Brexit this is no longer clear

Malaysia is tax free. Also duty free when buying goods for your boat. Good labor rates there or stock up on upgrades and sail to Phuket and have it done there.

If you are ever in SE Asia.

Yah

Tax residence , not passport

Spain is a very expensive country to flag , vat plus matriculation ... 30 percent

I believe Poland Is another flag similar to the British flag in that only a “ paper “ residency is needed , hence it preferred by non Europeans. I’m not sure how vat is handled in Poland

Malta also has a program for non E.U. passports

Typically tax avoidance games are expensive and are only worthwhile for those with deep pockets and long arms

Alway double check with a professional
Never believe what you read on forums

Ocesnskies in the Channel Islands is well respected flag specialist

If you are Australian, you must register in Australia irrespective of where the boat is.
