Thanks again to all, every comment is helpful

Northern Lights is the gold standard for marine generators. Serviced regularly and not abused it should go 10,000 hours before needing any serious rebuilding.

"Not abused", however, includes not being run with no load with the A/C cycled off for hours at a time on a coolish night. This is worse than running a propulsion engine at idle because the RPM doesn't go down. That's why gensets more often have polished bores than propulsion engines. So by all means you will need to get the generator (and propulsion engines) surveyed with leakdown tests etc. Polished bores is an expensive fix.

So if I was to ask Dream Yacht or Moorings if I owned a boat managed through them they would not supply me with the maintenance records, because they do not keep them?

Based upon the sail area / displacement ratio, I'm gonna say it didn't spend most of it's life sailing. Still may be a great boat for you. The NL generator is a top quality unit, but it doesn't mean it will last 10k hours for you.

All the comments about charterers running aircon all the time is 100% correct.
Also the Northern lights are very good as mentioned. You could give it an (major?)overhaul and then not have to worry about it for some time. A good mechanic and a proper oil sample test would give you a good idea.

Good luck with your offer!

Do moorings give you a regular report about maintenance, service schedules etc ? If you asked for it could they give it to you?

One way to look at it is: The money you thought you saved when you got such a great deal on your boat is usually inversely proportional to amount of maintenance the boat had. Think about that before you go to sea with your family and friends and then decide what you willing to lay down for Sea Tow insurance.

I never dealt with Moorings. Only with one french charter base of the other company which must not be named.

They don't hire external companies for most maintenance, they have staff for routine maintenance. So the maintenance record is just an excel list. Which they don't show you.
