Did Maine Cats close down?

I was talking to a gentleman at a marina with an MC P47 and he said they did. The website is still up. Anyone know?

Re: Did Maine Cats close down?

I'm not interested enough to pay the PACER fees to look it up in depth, but from https://www.pacermonitor.com/public/...RANS_INC_et_al it appears they're at least heading that way. Also looks like the owner, Dick Vermeulen may be in a personal chapter 13 from https://www.govinfo.gov/app/details/...-10416/context

Yes, Maine Cat packed up and sold lock, stock, and barrel. The molds for the MC 38, however, were purchased by Gulf Shore Catamarans and they are nearing completion of the first one.

A man with high ideals perhaps his excursion into eco sailing was too much to bear in the long term. Maine Cats are excellent boats but maybe not the most commercial too niche. If you want to make money build Lagoons.

Oddly enough it was the owner of the P47 that told me about the P38, I hadn't heard of that one before. I think he said they built 3 of those.

Any info on the 30' and 41' hulls? And who is Gulf Shore Catamarans. All I found a sailing operation.

Where are they? I couldn't find the address on the website. The phone # has an Ohio area code. Nothing wrong with that but it's not exactly Gulf Shores.

Well there is a Gulf Coast Catamaran LLC registered and active in Ohio but not in any states that touch the Gulf of Mexico. So perhaps the name references the coast of a gulf in Lake Erie I'm unfamiliar with, or they just want to evoke the Gulf Coast? If it's the latter it's odd for a product that was/is called Maine Cat.

Poking around on their site it looks like they bought the molds and managed to get some of the senior shop floor employees, which is probably good news for those with existing boats in terms of support.

Re: Did Maine Cats close down?

I found Guf Shore Catamaran LLC in Springfield, Ohio. I don't know if they are building them there because it's not a great location with no river access and it's in SW Ohio which is not close to the Great Lakes. Maybe they plan on building all of them modular style and trucking the parts for final assembly elsewhere. I think this was the original concept for the MC38.
