Dispensing with the sails and the motors

Hi All
I just got this ad from one of your favorite charter organizations. Looks like they have come up with a way to take the floating condo motor/sailing concept the next step. No motor. No sails. The next step in the evolution of the catamaran?

It’s a houseboat without the usual motors that move it around. Nothing new to see from a boating point of view.

It may be a new way for a charter company to offer tourist services. Good for them, I’m sure that they’ll find customers that don’t want to operate a boat and don’t want to be in a resort.

It’s called a “Cat-a-Tonic”.

Re: Dispensing with the sails and the motors

They've been doing that for years at Robinhood Marina in Maine. Build a small house on a barge, make it look a bit boat-ish, moor it out in the bay and rent it out to tourists. It's probably a great vacation. I think they throw in a small motorboat to get back and forth, and some paddlecraft.

And of course, these days there are a million house boats on AirBNB. Again, I'm sure it's a lot of fun for some people. I was talking to the renters in one of them once when I was tied up across the dock from them. They were up on the top deck, drinks in hand, enjoying watching the river traffic go by.

Not everyone can, or wants to, go cruising. For some, sitting out on your own private island in the water is good enough. Just look at all the boats which never leave the marina.
