edel catamarans and slamming

I like the look, speed and relative affordability of edel cats.

Thinking to getting one. However, edel catamarans bridgedecks looks rather low.

Can anyone with an actual experience sailing an edel shed some light about slamming please?

Cheers!

I have 33, so first generation. You are probably looking at a 35?
The nacelle or cuddy cabin cuts the distances between hulls as wave roll in between. Very little slamming in most occasions. Do the more you pinch into the wind the higher the probability of slamming. But if you want to sail very close to the wind, perhaps a catamaran is not in your future

Thanks for the input.

an edel 36.
surprised about the sailing close to the wind experience.
the few of catamarans i have sailed with, didn't show any problem close reaching.

We owned an Edel 43, and no doubt it slammed as the central pod had little clearance. If you can deal with the slamming they’re great cats.

We had an Edel 35 for 10 years; A very good boat, but she does slam at times.

Mainly of course going to weather as you are moving more or less against the waves, so harder impact. But going to weather is part of sailing, so you just deal with it. Otherwise, many good qualities of the boat

There are very few, if any, multihulls that do not slam, given the right bad circumstances.
One gets used to it.

How true.
Unfortunately it seems the slamming circumstances come fairly often to edel. (a strong impression i get from the replies.)

I bet, with your woods Mira 35 for example, slamming comes less often, and when it does - not very violently.

A nice design, imho.

Cheers!

Not quite, Lady Rover has deep V hulls and a flat bridgedeck underside (the designer worked for James Wharram before he designed her in the 80ies), so we have some slamming as well.

As some have mentioned a nacelle can help to some degree.
Also a bigger bridgedeck clearance helps a lot.

The older Jeantot Marine Privilege Cats are not bad cruisers and suffer a little bit less.

In my opinion the Edel are fairly good boats.

Re: edel catamarans and slamming

if no slamming at all , it,s not a cat,, getting the odd slam( BETTER SAY SLAP) from time to time, pending on the make, speed, and hight of bridge deck,,, sailed on 55 foot lagoon , and more slamming than my spectrum shuttleworth , normal with a cabin near the mast and center of the boat,,, dont worryˇˇ NORMAL,,
