It's a trend I've followed because the idea appeals to me. Has your boat been built yet? She'll be quite the weapon
The pic is of our boat, will be launching by mid Feb for sea trials.

As promised, two month later update. We're now shooting for end of April launch and a June 1st departure.

https://www.dropbox.com/home/RenegadeProgressForCF

Once on dropbox, suggest switching to gallery view and sorting by descending modification date (their UI is subtle, it's near the top of the file list).

Hull graphics still pending. At the dropbox folder see "hull graphics mockup" (ignore lighting, masking, etc issues). I'm going to ramble a little now... Boat's name will be Untethered (marina-less liveaboard; or maybe a speed reference depending on POV but meant the former) and I'm kinda using the ninja as a mascot for identity (in software development ninja's are skilled in their craft). Had been using my work email for personal use for 15 years so needed a new address, so setup a untethered.ninja domain (blog isn't really up yet). Anyway, I can't decide if the chain and/or ninja are silly, but I still like them and want to do something so long as I don't cross over into stupid. The boat is already flashy, and I tend to be shy / introverted, so this all feels odd. Any feedback welcome.

Re: Forward cockpit Schionning Design!

I'm not on Dropbox so some other way to view pics would be nice.

I didn't know ninja was a software term, actually I doubt many know this. It does sound silly and kinda childish so I'd drop it. I like Untethered though.

Good luck

Cruising is kinda silly and childish so what’s your point?

Sorry, that was meant to be a share link, anyone should be able to view it:

I don't really mind if people know the ninja reference, that's more for me, I was more asking about the boat appearance.

Agreed; Untethered is a great name for this boat. She’s a beauty.

Enjoy!

Re: Forward cockpit Schionning Design!

Sorry, didn't mean to offend with my childish and silly comment but every time I hear ninja I think of those turtles.
Thanks for the new link to Dropbox and the boat looks great. At first I thought the Untethered graphics were about a deep sea diver and then I saw the ninja when I blew it up. If foregoing the ninja how about no graphics except for maybe a stripe all the way down the hull. Not a boot stripe but higher and wider.
Perhaps a Star Trek font.

We're likely to drop the shadows from it, and I may even drop the ninja or only put it on one hull, and just do the chain on both hulls.

I think I'd need to see a reference boat for the double stripe.

Re: Forward cockpit Schionning Design!

The Nautitech Open 40 does a really wide stripe so you could call it a 2 tone. There's lots of variations so you can really experiment.

Re: Forward cockpit Schionning Design!

Ah, I see. Yea that does look nice. Could be nice as a layer beneath the chains. We're doing a grey epoxy barrier coat on the bottom up to the orange stripe, with clear seaspeed v10x as the non-stick fouling release over the grey barrier coat. Could tie in some additional orange or grey. Will give it some thought. Thanks.

Re: Forward cockpit Schionning Design!

I like the graphics, and the name, and the boat too. Good luck with the launch. And please keep us up to date.

Cheers.
Paul.

Wow, that's totally lame. The drawings actually have the berths labeled as births. If they can't get that right......

Re: Forward cockpit Schionning Design!

So, did you launch?!

Also sorry if I missed it, but did you post dimensions/specs anywhere? What's the LOA and mast height?

I post updates here:
https://www.facebook.com/untetheredninja

The last one was 2 weeks ago, and I've been eagerly awaiting an update from builder the last 2 days. We've slipped the dates multiple times. At this point the longeron is the long pull, and that was unplanned work due to scheduling with the sub-contractor. I wouldn't be surprised if it slips again, but as of the last update we were aiming to depart July 15th.

I don't even have the full specs in one place, as its evolved so much over the project, but the rough ones are:

LOA/LWL at max displacement: 52'
BOA: 25.5'
Mast length (not height): 65.5' (deck mounted)
Max displacement: 14.4t (will be staying far from this)
Main + 100 Jib sail area: 130-135 sqm
Engines: 2x40hp
Fuel: 100 gallons
Water: 100 gallons
Expected lightship fitted for cruising but dry: around 9.5t, but have no idea if we're over or under this, last weighing was a structural shell at 4t or thereabouts. Will get a measurement when transporting her.

Possible displacements:
  • LWL: 15.05m, B/L: 12.93, DISP: 10.2mt, Bridge deck: 1.00m
  • LWL: 15.28m, B/L: 12.84, DISP: 11.5mt, Bridge deck: 0.95m
  • LWL: 15.51m, B/L: 12.75, DISP: 12.9mt, Bridge deck: 0.90m
  • LWL: 15.73m, B/L: 12.68, DISP: 14.4mt, Bridge deck: 0.85m (max displacement)

Re: Forward cockpit Schionning Design!

And we launched http://facebook.com/untetheredninja/
Still some more work to do, estimating departure around August 7th.
I'm not there in person yet, flying out in a week.
Don't have the crane weight yet, think the builders are sleeping still after a busy launch.
Stern looks a little low, but I don't know what's on the boat at the moment (may not have chain, and front lockers are empty).
