Geico Insurance Renewals for direct customers.

Has anyone had their catamaran insurance renewed with Geico direct since the first of June? I have talked with Geico direct and they said they are renewing policies, but I just wondered what the experience has been with catamaran cruisers.

not in my case, and my understanding is that GEICO is only renewing small powerboat type craft

Re: Geico Insurance Renewals for direct customers.

Geico offered to continue our insurance a year ago at a 25% increase in cost. We shopped around and got a survey and found insurance for about 1/5th of the cost of Geico and insured for about triple the value that Geico had us insured for. If we have a claim will the new company be as easy to work with as Geico? Probably not, but time will tell.

Re: Geico Insurance Renewals for direct customers.

We are not a cat, but I can speak about the experience and recency. We just bound with Geico beginning 6/15. 2011 model at 40 feet. First time customer, no affiliation.

Reason for the change was Markel did not want to expand our navigation area.

Geico has been an order of magnitude more pleasant and efficient to deal with. Someone different always answers the phone, but you end the call with with the question or issue addressed, and pronto. They were 2/3 the cost of renewing with Markel, and much less than several other quotes. Navigation area is within 200NM USA and Canada.

We also moved cars over to Geico (much cheaper than Progressive for 15 years) and purchased umbrella coverage.

We are very happy to be with Geico.

Absolutely agree, Geico is easy to deal with and we still have auto insurance with them but their boat insurance policies have become exceedingly expensive from our perspective. From what I’ve heard they want to exit the boat insurance business and we were very happy with their service, just not their pricing.

Geico auto absolutely sucks if you ever have a claim. Two hours on hold to get hold a human and then kept getting lied to, their computer interface never worked, took 6 month to pay off a claim less than $2k.

Switched the cars to Costco and saved 40%.

We were home ported in NC with both Geico and State Farm.
The covered area is all US and Canadian coast out to 100 miles I believe and the Bahamas as far south as Georgetown.
It’s an agreed value policy.
I figure the savings pretty much cover the trip up and back for hurricane season plus some.

Re: Geico Insurance Renewals for direct customers.

We’re a monohull and have been insured with Geico directly since 2013 (current boat since 2015). Our policy renews next month and I’ve already received the binder and premium, which dropped slightly from last year.

Re: Geico Insurance Renewals for direct customers.

What is the difference between Geico direct and BOAT/US Geico (which I have)? Ie insurance covered by Geico and BOAT US still on cover page?
FWIW, 1987 sailboat, just renewed with slight premium reduction (last year went up a bit), agreed value policy. 0 claim history in 14 years of ownership

When I said direct, I meant not using an agent or a broker. We have Geico/BoatUS.
