Re: Good youtube channels for cat cruising life?

Did anyone mention Sailing Sisu? He gets pretty technical. Good source of knowledge on systems and performance.

Re: Good youtube channels for cat cruising life?

My wife and I joked that if we created a youtube channel, ours would include lots of arguing about setting anchors, "discussions" about weather, and debates about inviting certain family to join us.

I don't think there are any channels that have taken that angle. All of them are either super nerdy tech, redecorate for cheap, wife with bikini sewing cushion, or endless drone/gopro shots of snorkeling and hiking.

The best by far is the Cruising Kiwi's. It's real with real (painful) fishing techniques not seen on any other channel with humor that no other channel has!

Re: Good youtube channels for cat cruising life?

I came across this, and it seemed a good thing to throw in, even if not just cats.

That being the case, as soon as I see bikinis, I leave. I'm looking for what it's like to live a cruising lifestyle like I might be able to do....sans bikinis :-). Plus there is no joy watching kids party. They are lightweights :-).

Points taken though. I wonder how many of the bikini channel subscribers are under 35. Most I bet.
Its not a cat, but try Sailing Fair Isle. An ex-BBC/ITV camera/on screen personality couple so the editing and presentation is top notch. Not as chirpy and silly as the Winns, their tech corner has some good stuff. Not as detailed as I'd like but very watchable.

It’s a blog not a channel but Bumfuzzles is an interesting read. A younger couple with no sailing experience buy a 35’ cat and sail all the way around the world. They got some grief here on the forum but I liked it. Lots of us did.

Never understood that. Some contributors have seriously split personalities. I posted about trying to plan to push off 5 years from now and get all sorts of grief about "go now", "don't wait", "don't plan just do it". Then you have a couple like the Bumfuzzles and Winns who do exactly that, and there so much vitriol being spewed about them for doing exactly what poster told me to do.

Idk if its jealousy or too much rum...

I got that too,
I bought a boat in Fiji, Spent six weeks learning how to sail it from scratch,
I had no idea on how to sail a largish Catamaran or any sail boat, or the systems on it,
Six weeks later I singlehanded it to Australia,

I have quite a few video's on Youtube about my crossing,

It boils down to,
Just because you cant do it, Get out of the way of people that can do it,

Jealousy I think it is,

Cheers Brian,

Yep, but in a much smaller boat.

Re: Good youtube channels for cat cruising life?

We keep up a YouTube channel mostly for my mother - lol. Even though we just do it for family and friends we make it public. Maybe you will find something in it of value. We switched from a monohull to a cat (Antares 44i) a year ago. I have to admit that I got pretty burned out on making videos this past summer and the two we put out weren't up to standards. The series from last winter on the cat in FL and the Bahamas was fun though.
