HARBOR WING X2 - US NAVY RESEARCH PROJECT

I got these shots this morning while this vessel was being repositioned at the nearby Scripps Institution of Oceanography docks, here in Shelter Island, San Diego Bay. It belongs to the US Navy and is being tested by Scripps. So far, it only is being tested inside the bay while they get the systems going well. The wing mast weighs about 3000 pounds, is computer controlled using a Maretron sensor, and is very cool.

One of the crew belongs to my yacht club and allowed me to come aboard for a tour. It's neat that alternative power systems are being explored by the military.
