Crossing an ocean doesn't necessarily give skills.

Have met many over the last 5 years who have done the same yet know nought about actual sail trim, basic maintenance or sensible anchoring.
Anyone with money can buy a boat and cross an ocean, zero experience required it seems.
Most of the time they have an uneventful passage, certainly nothing that more money can't fix.

Never having watched a "Wynn's" video I won't comment on their ability

ROTFLMAO

****

They were the best of the first. And like any successful act they rolled with the times. They haven't been a sailing channel for years...it's all about lifestyle now. And they are damn good at selling the lifestyle.

+1 for sailing GBU. Real and learning.

The one thing that irks me about Delo's is the fact they never show videos of anybody else but Brian, Kazza, and the baby.

That channel was MADE by having Brady and other friends on the channel and now they're never seen.

I'm sure they have their reasons but I rarely watch them anymore.

Yes I enjoy watching NBJS , I can't stand the soft porn channels , I think There are a lot of the sailing Tube channels that have just become too focused on money ,sure if one of the big sail manufacturer wanted to do me a deal on new sails I'd be interested

There are some great channels for learning how to do repairs to your boat

I sold house and all, built a W32 in 1974-1975 and went cruising for 6 years. Had 2 daughters on the way. I was not the first either...lol

So why do you post on a thread you know absolutely nothing about?

Certainly, I actually watch some of the YouTube channels so can hopefully make an informed statement.
YouTube is like Cruisers Forum, you have to weed through the BS and figure out who are the armchair quarterbacks and who knows their stuff. Knowledge can be gained from both as can entertainment.
I find these threads kind of ridiculous as it’s ones choice whether to watch, subscribe or become a patron of YouTube channels, doesn’t make you better or worse for doing either. Just like Cruisers Forum it’s a form of entertainment and knowledge gained.

This is quite unreasonable. Tremendous lockdowns? Maybe you missed the world health crisis. 26,054 Canadian Covid deaths, I just looked it up. US deaths 600,000+. Canadian population is 38 million, US is 10 times that. Somehow this lockdown has saved lives. Perhaps even mine.

Freedom of speech? That's pricelessly incoherent and incorrect.

Large welfare state? Another piece of misinformation. I like my health care and it doesn't make me broke.

I lived in the US until 2016. I love it here. The people are friendly and don't go around shooting up their neighbors.

I think your post is offensive.

Re: La Vagabonde - I don't understand

People are funny, they will pay cable to watch a crappy movie or tv shows and then look down their nose on those who watch youtube for free about things that actually interest them. “ I would never watch”, ok we get it, you are cool.

I just got back from cruising for months in the Bahamas. Many places we visited were recommended by youtube channels. I plan to watch more on the Raggeds before we go back to the Bahamas in January.

Riley is an entertaining dude. Elana was a hottie. That combination earned them many more viewers than the other channels right out of the gate. Now they are raising kids while cruising and thats a whole different kind of Entertainment.

I agree. Free Range Sailing is pretty good. But my next favourite is the old B/W reruns of McHales Navy - which has as much technical content as Sailing LaVagabond but somehow seems easier to watch.

Yep, I think they're going to miss that boat when they get the Rapido. I'm sure it has a lot to do with the fact that Elayna's having another kid and they plan on being landlocked for awhile. Building the new boat is probably their way of keeping the channel alive as it's their only income. Speaking of income, let's not forget that while Delos has fewer subscribers, they make more money off of Patreon than La Vagabonde. As for the kids, La Vagabonde was smart in that you didn't get twenty minutes of a newborn every episode unlike Delos which was all Little Nugget for awhile. I think that and losing Brady really cost them.

Re: La Vagabonde - I don't understand

Did some folks get out of bed on the wrong side today?
Or is it a case of heaping **** on the cool kids, in the hope of appearing even cooler?
I'm scratching my head as to why I even read through this thread, but here's a go at answering the OP:
La Vagabond are very successful on You Tube because:
- They have defined their audience, and consistently deliver content that is valued by that audience.
- They have worked hard consistently for years - published well over 400 videos last l looked, and are now rewarded by the You Tube algorithm delivering new recruits.
- They are good at what they do. This is YouTube - not high art, or hard core marine expertise. You just gotta post videos.
- You Tube videos primarily offer value in 2 ways - to entertain or educate. They primarily entertain with visually beautiful images of exotic locations and beautiful people. I certainly have put a few locations such as Bahamas and Azores on my "must go" list as a result.
I don't own a bikini, I'm not young, cool, beautiful, rich, or a couch potato.
I own a boat, sail a lot, and will be living/sailing full time in a couple of months.
But I like them, (and the Wynns) so there you have it. Stereotype smashed.
