Who said anything about 4-5 kts in 20 apparent.

I am doing 7kts at least at 50 deg in 20ks.

yeah, that seem around there.

without exagerating in any direction, my boat windward ability matches cruising monos - this are monos set up for long distance cruising.

Not monos where grandmother undies are added to sail area in harbour.

I think you make an important point ,Quite often the apples/oranges debate gets overlooked . You cant compare a J105 with a gemini just as you would not compare it to a Gozzard 36 or a Grampian 30. Or conversely a Gunboat with a Hans Christian

Re: Lagoon 380 - Performance tips

Yes, as I said in a previous post, if you are looking at a Lagoon/FP/Leopard etc, and comparing it to a J Boat, especially upwind, you are not looking at the correct boat.

In fact, if you are looking at a Beneteua/Juneau/Catalina mono vs. a J Boat, you are a looking the wrong boat.

I wish I could get a better VMG at 40 deg like I could with my Beneteau 37. OTH, I have hit 11 kts on a beam reach in 23kts with just regular sails up, something I could never do on my Bene. And I could do this without any of the passengers on board worrying the way they would on a mono.
