I think everyone else knows exactly what the numbers mean. The 380 is close to 38 feet. The Lagoon, Leopard, Knysna and Voyage 440 cats are close to 44'. It is the universal way of distinguishing boat size. Only recently have they started fudging the numbers but they are still close to it.

Your Prout is not 35 meters or 35 miles, it is 35 feet or close to it.

Size really does matter when it comes to Boats.
The mono's know the game too. The Beneteau Sense 51 and 57 use the Sense 50 and Sense 55 hulls. Dufour had three successive models each claiming to be a foot longer that used the same hull. To argue that saying the model is a 48 and has nothing to do with length is, of course, silly.
